When building a snare collection, don't forget the value of a great small snare, ideally a Piccolo in the range of about 3 x 13.

Maple, brass, chrome, mahogany, you name it, they come in all flavors similar to a standard snare, a Piccolo is a a great primary or second snare in your arsenal.

David Garibaldi has used various versions of brass shells as a second snare over the years as well as Stewart Copeland and a number of rock players in the 70's and 80's.

A great way to start is by looking at your current kit and find an alternative Piccolo as a side or second snare. By alternate, I suggest if you use a maple as your primary snare, try a brass Piccolo or vice verse.

You will greatly expand your sound choices and expand your musical identity.
